CSM Is the Faster, Cheaper Start

CSM requires no prior experience and includes the 2-day training in the $495 fee. Most candidates pass the online assessment easily after the class. For new project managers or developers who want agile credentials, CSM is the accessible starting point.

PMP requires 3–5 years of verifiable PM experience, 35 hours of formal education, and passing a rigorous 4-hour exam. The payback is longer but the credential is more durable.

Common Questions

Should I get CSM first and PMP later?
Good strategy. CSM builds agile vocabulary and pays back quickly. PMP becomes more valuable once you have project management experience to leverage. Many PMs hold both.
Is PSM I better than CSM?
PSM I (Professional Scrum Master from Scrum.org) is $200 with no renewal fees — better ROI than CSM ($495 + $100 renewal). PSM I is increasingly preferred by technical hiring managers. CSM has longer history and more name recognition.
